St Lucia

St Lucia

Saint Lucia has long been known as an extraordinary haven as it is home to some of the most precious natural beauty in the world. From adventure to romance, luxury to excitement, there are parts of this island for all to discover. For those in search of a week of peace and tranquility, there are plenty of long, calming beaches and serene, indulging spas. For travellers who prefer activity there are dozens of land and water sports to partake in as well as many renowned archaeological sites to explore. The island has retained its low-key feel, one of its biggest assets.

Where to go
There is lots of St.Lucia to see in addition to the beaches. If you are after some shopping, head north to the tourist haven of Rodney Bay or the capital city, Castries. If you venture south instead you can see some breathtaking beaches as well as quaint peaceful fishing villages.
When to go
St Lucia has a tropical climate making it a suitable destination for year-round travel. High season from mid-December to mid-April is when the weather is at its best with little rain and cooling winds. The summer months are very hot and can be wet. The hurricane season lasts roughly from late August to October.
Highlights
*Fish fry - Saturday nights in the fishing village of Dennery show an exciting and traditional exhibit of music and dance as well as fried fish and other great Creole cuisine.
*Jungle Biking - take a top-notch mountain biking trip through acres of trails in a private rainforest, just minutes from Soufrière.
*The Pitons - St Lucia's most famous sight is that of the monolithic twin peaks of the Pitons. Though best viewed at sunset, these peaks will amaze the senses at any time.
*Turtle watching - The beach of Asne Lavoutte to the north is well known for its giant leatherback turtles. There are watching tours given, often by moonlight but you can drive up the dirtroads to see them yourself too.
